Nelsons for Shoes at 9 Bridge Street in the heart of Bolton town centre is owned by the Solloway family. Arthur, the proprietor took over the business from his father, James Arthur and now his son James and daughter Katie work in the business, keen to continue the family tradition as an independent retailer.
Established back in 1842 by the Nelson family, the traditional values of service and quality have stayed constant. James Arthur snr bought the business from Miss. E. H. Nelson in 1953. He owned a shoe repair business and was keen to expand into shoe retail. The shop was then sited in an arcade off Bradshawgate.
In 1969 at the end of the lease, the business moved to Hotel Street where we would stay for 34 years. Another end of lease in 2003 meant looking for new premises again. We are now very much at home in Bridge Street, boasting a fantastic, modern, air-conditioned shop with full disabled access.
We stock an wide range of quality shoes including well-established brands such as Hotter, Rieker, Josef Seibel, Rohde, Van Dal and Padders to name but a few.
